Salty's® FATHEAD
Everyone wants to get their hands on Salty's® FATHEAD swimmers!
Excellent action with huge reverse squid eyes!
The FATHEAD swimmer is a lipless type swimmer, sealed against water for maximum durability, and painted. Weighted perfectly for optimum presentation! It uses VMC Permasteel 4X strong 4/0 Belly hook, 6/0 buck tail dressed siwash tail hook. 150 lb Rosco swivels and 2X strong 120lb Rosco split rings. Oversized reverse Holographic eyes for maximum effect! Stainless Steel hardware where possible and through wired for maximum strength! Perfect for stripers, or LARGE bluefish! Proper presentation of this swimmer is to cast then twitch the rod tip occasionally while retrieving, this will allow the lure to "wiggle" from side to side. Vary your retrieve, slow for stripers, faster for bluefish.
The FATHEAD swimmer has a completely new weighting scheme that I've spent hundreds of hours perfecting. This is also I believe the first time there has ever been a commercially available wood swimmer like this with squid eyes. We custom built a machine just to make these lures so they're consistent each and every time. We hope you like the end result!
"I just swam mine in the light for the first time this weekend and I could not believe how much they wiggled. Really impressive job.. I haven't ever seen a bottle type plug that swims even close to the way they do. Also liked how the olive has that nice purplish reflection. I am now wishing I woulda picked up one of the "fancier" paint jobs even just to see em. Really unique, sick plug... good job and your hours paid off."
"Finally had a chance to fish this plug…(Lots of family visiting in August, spend more time on the boat goofing off then seriously fishing) Anyway When I first got it I thought it was a little light for its size but it casts very well for its weight and is very stable in the air. It the water it swims with more of an S shape then a Z pattern and stays in the moving water without fouling up. The cut of the head is not as deep as the xxxxx but is swims fine. I fished it in a strong rip and it looks awesome swimming about 1â below the surface in an eel like manner. I have only caught a couple small fish with it so far but I think you have a winner here. I passed it around to a few buddies at the shop to let them check it out. I think they well be surprised as well. Lots of ooohs and ahhhhs when I passed it around in the tackle shop bs session the other day."
"they swim great and the other nice thing is they weed out the schoolies cuz of their size."
I get asked a lot about what colors are best for surf fishing?
Olive/White mimics a nice size mackerel in natural color and size.. Electric Squid is a great color to imitate frightened squid as they flee predator fish in the rips and rocks of the northeast. Pearl White is the best imitation of a normal squid. Yellow or Parrot at sunrise or cloudy days. Black/purple at night with the glow eyes is a killer if you softly light up the eyes in your headlamp. Same goes for the turquoise fire color-they are meant to be fished at night. On sunny days stick with a color that has a high definition color hue change on it....Olive/White, Blue/White, etc. Spend some time looking at the bait prevalent in your area and you will soon understand why certain colors can give you just that little bit extra advantage to entice a larger fish to take your lure. Don't be afraid to use such colors as Olive/White, Blue/White, or Yellow/White at night either!
